Men's White Gold Wedding Rings

White gold starts as yellow gold, alloyed with white metals and then finished with a thin rhodium plating. The plating is what gives the ring its bright, cool white colour rather than the pale straw tone of the alloy underneath.

That plating wears. It sits on the surface, and areas that see constant contact lose it faster. A ring takes far more contact than a pendant or a pair of earrings, because your hands touch everything. Over time the brightness softens and the warmer base alloy begins to show through, usually on the underside first. Re-plating restores it. How often you need it depends on your hands and your work rather than on a schedule, so we would rather look at the ring than quote you an interval. Our complimentary servicing covers inspection, cleaning, polishing and stone tightening.

The carat changes the alloy beneath the plating. 9ct is the harder alloy and resists scratching better. 18ct is softer, and its base colour is deeper, so plating wear reads a little more warmly when it comes through. 14ct sits between them.

Platinum avoids the question, since it is white all the way through and never needs plating, though it costs more.

White gold designs mainly differ in two ways: profile and finish. Flat profiles with bevelled edges sit close to the hand and read as narrower than they measure. Domed profiles feel rounder and carry more metal. Andrew is the plainest, a classic polished band with nothing added to it. Hector keeps the flat profile and adds contrast: a brushed centre with highly polished offset edges.

Finish matters more on white gold than on the other metals in our men's wedding rings range, for a reason that is easy to miss. A high polish shows plating wear as a gradual dulling across the whole surface. A brushed finish scatters light instead, so it tends to look warmer rather than simply less shiny, and fine scratches disappear into the texture. Both wear at the same rate. The difference is in how the wear shows.

Nothing on this page is held in stock. Work begins once you order, so it's worth allowing enough time if you're working towards a wedding date. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for a custom piece and 2 to 4 weeks for a ready-to-ship design from the Shop. Engraving can be added inside the band.

Cost here is driven by specification rather than styling. Carat and width set the base, since 18ct carries more gold than 9ct and a wider band uses more metal. Diamonds have the biggest impact on price. A single stone flush into the band adds modestly, while a fully set design of the kind in our eternity rings sits in a different bracket.

Against platinum, white gold comes in lower for the same design. What you save upfront you spend in small amounts later on re-plating, so the question is when you would rather pay.

On diamond-set designs, lab-grown diamonds are graded by IGI or GIA and run up to around 30% more affordable than mined stones, which are traded under the Kimberley Process. Afterpay is available on purchases up to $2,000, so it will not cover every band. For a variation on any design, request a quote.
