Men's Platinum Wedding Rings

Platinum is a naturally white metal, so the colour is the metal itself and never needs restoring. White gold takes its colour from rhodium plating, which wears and has to be redone.

Platinum is also denser than gold. The same band carries noticeably more weight, which is why many men prefer it, and why a wide platinum band can feel like too much if you have not worn a ring before.

Platinum marks with daily wear, as every metal does. What differs is where the metal goes. Gold sheds a little material when it scratches, so a gold band slowly thins over the decades. Platinum displaces instead, moving aside rather than disappearing, so an older platinum ring builds a soft patina rather than getting thinner. A re-polish brings the finish back.

Purity is the other decision. Selected designs come in platinum and in Platinum 600, which holds less platinum and more alloy, and costs less as a result. It's easier to decide once you've tried both on.

Most of the platinum designs here are flat or gently domed, and most carry bevelled edges. Finishes are brushed or polished. They are the same designs found across our men's wedding ring collection, so a band you have seen in gold can usually be made in platinum.

Max is the plainest of them, a flat profile with bevelled edges. It is pictured and priced at 7mm, and made in other widths on request. Trent runs a brushed centre between polished edges with hand-carved lines through it, and comes in platinum or Platinum 600.

Width matters more in platinum than in gold. A wider band takes more metal, and because platinum is dense, the added metal is noticeable in both the weight and the price. Wear a wide one before you order it. If you have not worn a ring before, a narrower band is the easier starting point.

Nothing here is made in advance. Each band is cut and finished for your hand in our Hyde Park studio. A custom piece takes 4 to 6 weeks. Wedding rings carry a limited lifetime warranty from the date of completion, with complimentary servicing covering inspection, cleaning, polishing and stone tightening. Returns for refund or exchange run within 30 days in original condition, and size exchanges within 30 days where the design allows.

Each platinum design shows its own starting price. Purity and width are the biggest factors affecting the price. Platinum costs more than Platinum 600, and because platinum is dense, a wider band takes considerably more metal by weight than the same band in gold. That weight is the honest reason for the premium.

Diamonds add to the price again, which our diamond wedding bands make clear. The same goes for a matching eternity ring. Choosing lab-grown diamonds, graded by IGI or GIA, brings that part down by up to around 30%.

Afterpay is available on purchases up to $2,000, so on most platinum rings it covers part of the price rather than all of it. The limited lifetime warranty and complimentary servicing come with the ring, which is worth counting against a cheaper metal.
