Men's Gold Wedding Rings

All three are solid gold, so none is inherently better quality than the others. It is a trade-off between how deep you want the yellow and how well you want the surface to hold up.

The numbers behind the labels are simple. 9kt gold is 37.5% gold by weight. In 14kt that rises to 58.5%, and 18kt is three quarters gold. More gold in the alloy means a richer yellow and a higher metal value in the ring itself. Hardness works the opposite way. Pure gold is soft, so it is the alloying metals that give a band its resistance to knocks. A 9kt band is the hardest of the three and tends to keep its finish looking newer for longer. An 18kt band picks up marks more readily.

So the real question is what your hands do all day. If your hands take knocks at work, or you spend a lot of time outdoors, 9kt or 14kt is the sensible choice. If you spend most of your day at a desk and want the richest yellow colour, 18kt is a good option, provided you're happy for it to pick up marks a little more easily. 14kt sits in the middle and is often the choice people make when they're weighing up both durability and colour.

All three karats are available across every design in this collection. The same designs are made in white gold and rose gold, and there is a men's platinum range as well.

The yellow gold designs here run from flat profiles to domed ones, with pictured widths between 6mm and 8mm. Any of them can be made narrower or wider than shown.

Max and Hector are both flat-profile bands. Max stays plain with bevelled edges. Hector sets a brushed face against highly polished off-set edges. Oliver is domed rather than flat, with a single hand-carved polished line through the brushed surface. Andrew is the simplest design in the range, and the one most people picture when they think of a gold wedding ring.

A wider band is generally more comfortable when the inner edge is rounded, because the ring sits against the finger instead of pressing into it.

Finish is the other decision. A polished band throws more light and shows fine scratches sooner. A brushed finish hides everyday wear much better, which is why most of the men's designs here are brushed. Ruben and Hercules each set a single diamond into a brushed gold band, and the wider diamond wedding rings range has more. Fully set bands sit in eternity rings. We don't begin making your ring until your order and finger size have been confirmed. The bands are made in the Harry & Co studio at 148 King William Road, Hyde Park. A custom piece takes 4 to 6 weeks. A ready-to-ship design from the Shop takes 2 to 4 weeks.

Every wedding ring carries a limited lifetime warranty from the date it is completed, with complimentary servicing that covers inspection, cleaning, polishing and stone tightening.

The price of a yellow gold men's band comes down to four things. Karat comes first. An 18kt band holds twice the gold of a 9kt one, so it costs more before anything else is added. Width is next, because a wider band uses substantially more metal than a narrow one. A wide band in a high karat uses substantially more metal than a narrow one, which makes it the biggest single driver on a plain gold ring. After that come any diamonds, followed by inlay work if your design includes it.

On a diamond-set design, a lab-grown stone is IGI or GIA graded and runs up to around 30% below the mined equivalent. Our lab-grown wedding rings collection shows the range.

Afterpay is available on purchases up to $2,000. Most rings in this collection cost more than that, so it will not stretch across the whole ring for most buyers. If you want something not in the grid, we make custom wedding rings to order and quote each one individually.
