• Represents the entire diamond value chain
• Includes representatives from mining, manufacturing, trading, and retail
• Established in July 2000
• Aims to keep the diamond supply chain free from conflict diamonds

Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS)

• Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2000
• Created through negotiations between governments, diamond industry, and civil society organizations
• Sets out requirements for controlling rough diamond production and trade
• Entered into force in 2003
• Credited with reducing conflict diamonds to less than 1% of global diamond production

Influence of the World Diamond Council

• Has representation on all Kimberley Process working groups
• Influential in determining implementation and future reform of the Kimberley Process
• Headquartered in the United States
• Led by President Edward Asscher from Amsterdam, Netherlands
• Charter members include the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, International Diamond Manufacturers Association, and International Confederation of Jewellers
